Preparation for Pregnancy
Preparing for pregnancy begins before conception. The health of both parents can influence fertility, pregnancy outcomes, and a baby's early development. Because important developmental changes occur during the earliest stages of pregnancy, prospective parents are encouraged to optimise their health before trying to conceive.
At Seng's OG Practice, we recommend scheduling a preconception consultation at least three months before attempting pregnancy. This allows potential health concerns to be identified and addressed early, helping to support a healthier pregnancy journey.
Reproductive health assessment for both partners
Sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening for both partners
Pelvic examination for women where appropriate
Assessment of chronic medical conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disorders
Fertility screening for potential fertility concerns
Review of family history and referral for genetic
counselling where indicated
Menstrual cycle assessment and ovulation review
Guidance on nutrition, diet, exercise, supplements, and lifestyle habits
While no pregnancy can be guaranteed to be complication-free, proactive pregnancy planning and preconception care can help reduce potential risks and support a healthy pregnancy for both mother and baby.
