FULL RANGE OF SERVICES

What Is IVF and
How
Does It Work?

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is one of the most
effective fertility treatments available today.

01

The ovaries are stimulated to
produce multiple eggs.

02

Eggs are collected through
a minor procedure.

03

Eggs and sperm are combined in a
specialised IVF laboratory.

04

Fertilised eggs develop into embryos.

05

A selected embryo is transferred into
the uterus to establish a pregnancy.

Additional good-quality embryos may be frozen for future use,
potentially reducing the need for another full IVF cycle later.

Not every couple requires ICSI. Your fertility specialist will discuss whether conventional IVF or IVF-ICSI is the most suitable approach for your circumstances.

UNDERSTANDING ICSI

What Is ICSI?

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a specialised form of IVF that may improve fertilisation in certain situations.
Instead of allowing sperm to fertilise the egg naturally in the laboratory, a single healthy sperm is carefully injected directly into the egg.

ICSI is commonly recommended for:

  • Low sperm count
  • Poor sperm motility
  • Abnormal sperm morphology
  • Previous fertilisation failure during IVF
  • Surgically retrieved sperm
  • Situations where only a small number of eggs are available

Not every couple requires ICSI. Your fertility specialist will discuss whether conventional IVF or IVF-ICSI is the most suitable approach for your circumstances.

IVF Eligibility

When Should You
Consider IVF?

IVF may be recommended if you have been trying to conceive for more than 12 months if you are
under the age of 35, or for more than 6 months if you are aged 35 or above.

Pregnant woman holding an ultrasound scan

IVF may also be appropriate for:

Blocked or Damaged Fallopian Tubes

When the egg and sperm cannot meet naturally.

Male Factor Infertility

When sperm count, movement, or quality are reduced.

Unexplained Infertility

When pregnancy has not occurred despite normal
fertility investigations.

Endometriosis

Particularly moderate to severe endometriosis
affecting fertility.

Ovulation Disorders

Including conditions such as PCOS.

Previous Unsuccessful Fertility Treatment

When ovulation induction or IUI treatments have not
resulted in pregnancy.

Embryo Transfer &
Future Planning

These two topics naturally belong together because they
both occur after fertilisation.

Embryo Transfer

Embryo transfer is usually a simple and painless procedure that does not require anaesthesia.

Using ultrasound guidance, your fertility specialist places the embryo into the uterus using a fine catheter.

The number of embryos transferred is carefully planned according to Ministry of Health (MOH) regulations and your individual clinical situation to maximise success while minimising the risk of multiple pregnancy.

Embryo Freezing and Future Family Planning

Many couples choose to freeze additional suitable embryos for future use.

Frozen embryo transfer cycles may:

  • Avoid repeated ovarian stimulation
  • Reduce treatment burden
  • Provide additional opportunities for pregnancy
  • Support future family-building plans

Our team will discuss embryo freezing options, storage requirements, and relevant MOH
regulations during your treatment planning.

YOUR IVF JOURNEY

Understanding Your IVF Success & Safety

Understanding IVF Success

One of the most common questions we receive is:

"What are my chances of success?"

IVF success rates vary from person to person and depend on factors such as:

  • Female age
  • Egg quality
  • Sperm quality
  • Embryo quality
  • Underlying fertility diagnosis
  • Uterine health

During your consultation, your fertility specialist will provide realistic expectations based on your individual circumstances and fertility assessment results.

IVF Safety and Risks

IVF is generally safe, but like all medical treatments, it carries potential risks. These may include:

  • Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS)
  • Multiple pregnancy
  • Bleeding or infection following egg retrieval
  • Miscarriage
  • Ectopic pregnancy

At Seng's OG Practice, treatment protocols are designed to minimise risks while optimising treatment outcomes. Detailed counselling is provided before treatment begins.

PRACTICAL PLANNING

Before You Begin

Two essential aspects of your fertility journey — financial clarity and a meaningful first conversation.

Our aim is to help you understand the financial aspects of treatment before making any decisions.

3
