ABOUT GYNAECOLOGY CARE

What is Gynaecology?

Gynaecology is the branch of medicine focused on the health of the female reproductive system. Regular gynaecology screenings and check-ups can help detect potential health concerns early, allowing timely treatment and better long-term outcomes for women's health.

Women are encouraged to visit a gynaecologist for routine preventive care, including cervical cancer screening, reproductive health assessments, and HPV vaccination, which helps protect against the majority of cervical cancer cases.

"Preventive care and early screening can make women's health concerns easier to manage."

In addition to preventive care, gynaecology services may include fertility assessments, menstrual disorder management, contraception counselling, and treatment for a wide range of reproductive health conditions.

At Seng's OG Practice, our gynaecology clinic is dedicated to providing personalised gynaecological care for women at every stage of life, from adolescence through menopause and beyond. We focus on preventive healthcare, early intervention, and evidence-based treatments for both common and complex gynaecological conditions.

Our services include medical and surgical management of reproductive disorders, with expertise in abdominal, laparoscopic, vaginal, and hysteroscopic procedures. We are accredited to perform these procedures at private hospitals across Singapore, ensuring comprehensive and accessible gynaecology care for our patients.

Laparoscopic Surgery (key-hole surgery)

Laparoscopic surgery, also known as keyhole surgery, is a minimally invasive gynaecological procedure that allows a gynaecologist to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the abdomen and pelvis through small surgical incisions. A specialised camera and surgical instruments are inserted through tiny openings, providing clear visualisation of the reproductive organs while minimising tissue trauma.

Compared to traditional open surgery, laparoscopic surgery offers several advantages, including smaller incisions, reduced post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times.

Many gynaecological surgeries that previously required open surgery can now be performed using laparoscopic surgery, including:

  • Treatment of endometriosis
  • Ovarian cyst removal
  • Fibroid removal
  • Hysterectomy
  • Fertility-related surgery
  • Removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes
  • Treatment of ectopic pregnancy
  • Tubal ligation procedures

At Seng's OG Practice, Dr. Seng has extensive experience performing laparoscopic gynaecological surgery, including procedures for ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, hysterectomy, and fertility-related conditions. During your consultation, we will discuss the most suitable treatment options based on your individual needs and diagnosis.

Cervical cancer develops in the cervix and is most commonly associated with persistent Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Regular cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination can help reduce the risk of developing cervical cancer.

Common symptoms include:

  • Irregular vaginal bleeding
  • Heavy or prolonged menstrual periods
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge
  • Persistent pelvic or lower back pain
  • Pain during sexual intercourse

Ovarian cancer occurs when abnormal cells develop within the ovaries. Early-stage ovarian cancer may not cause noticeable symptoms, making regular gynaecological screening important.

Common symptoms include:

  • Abdominal bloating or swelling
  • Changes in bowel habits
  • Frequent urination
  • Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
  • Pelvic discomfort or pain
  • Pain during sexual intercourse

Common symptoms include:

  • Abnormal uterine bleeding

  • Vaginal spotting or discharge
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Unexplained weight loss

Common symptoms include:

  • Severe menstrual pain
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Pain during or after sexual intercourse
  • Painful bowel or bladder symptoms
  • Difficulty conceiving
